Mogens Lassen
Architect Mogens Lassen (1901-1987) is one of the best-known and most influential Danish architects. He was a pioneer in the field of Danish Functionalism and was influenced by the German design school Bauhaus. The geometric shapes in his designs are a consequence of this.
Because he was dyslexic and the financial situation of his parents did not allow it, he could not take any architectural training. However, because he wanted nothing more than to become an architect, he learned the trade through internships and apprenticeships. He traveled to Paris to gain experience at an engineering firm. He found his work too dull there, however, and he did not understand French either. That is why he refused an internship at Le Corbusier and went back to Denmark. The Parisian restaurant life, however, had greatly inspired him.
He was always drawing at home in Denmark and was happy to retire to his cluttered studio. He even died with a pencil in his hand.
His most famous design is the Kubus candleholder.
